This Fort Worth residence, perched just blocks from TCU Stadium, was originally outfitted with a luxury slate roof that concealed a critical issue below the surface.
Over time, the asphalt-based underlayment beneath the slate began to break down, causing visible black tar to bleed out onto the roof system.
Though our team did not complete the original roof installation, Ramon Roofing was called in to assess the problem, remove the compromised materials, and rebuild the entire roofing system with long-term durability in mind.
We began by carefully removing the original slate roof and inspecting the entire decking system.
The damage from the deteriorating underlayment required us to redeck the home completely, providing a stable, long-lasting foundation for the new roofing system.
For water protection, we installed a high-performance Polyglass underlayment, engineered for longevity and weather resistance—especially critical for slate roof systems.
Once prepped, our team installed 46 squares of New Vermont Slate in a timeless Rocky Gray finish, chosen to complement the home's architecture and surrounding views.
Each tile was hand-laid by our in-house craftsmen, ensuring a flawless fit and finish throughout.
To complete the rebuild, we fabricated and installed custom copper accents, including:
• New flashing at valleys and penetrations
• Copper metal edging for crisp architectural lines
• Half-round copper gutters and downspouts, formed and installed by our crew
Every copper element was chosen not just for performance, but to highlight the slate's tone and add depth to the home's roofline.
Over time, these copper components will develop a natural patina that further enhances the home's character.
One of the standout features of this project is the breathtaking view of TCU's football stadium—framed now by a roof that blends craftsmanship, materials, and longevity.
While the original roof fell short behind the scenes, the rebuilt system delivers both performance and peace of mind.
We don't just replace roofs—we rebuild them to last for decades.
